Turn your custom GPT into a Claude Skill.

OpenAI plans to retire custom GPTs on December 11, 2026. Paste your GPT’s instructions, add its knowledge files, and download a Skill that works in Claude and Codex. Your instructions stay word for word; nothing is rewritten by AI.

Convert your GPT

In ChatGPT, open My GPTs, choose Edit, then Configure. Copy each box into the same box here.

Use your own copies of the files you uploaded to the GPT.

What your GPT could do tick what was on

If people used your GPT

Your users don’t move with it.

OpenAI’s migration doesn’t bring your GPT’s users or sharing settings, and a Skill ZIP hands over your instructions to everyone you send it to. On ExpertRelay, people use it from their own ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor, pay you monthly or once, and never get the files. Convert first; one button takes it there.

Questions

Moving a custom GPT to a Skill.

Does this rewrite my instructions with AI?

No. Your instructions go into the Skill word for word. The converter adds what a Skill needs and a GPT didn't have: a name and description the AI uses to decide when to use it, a note on where your knowledge files went, and notes on anything your GPT could do that doesn't come across.

Where do I find my GPT's instructions?

In ChatGPT, open My GPTs, choose Edit on your GPT, then the Configure tab. Copy the Name, Description, Instructions and Conversation starters boxes. Add your own copies of the knowledge files you uploaded.

When do custom GPTs stop working?

OpenAI plans to retire custom GPTs on December 11, 2026, and their pages become inaccessible after that. Enterprise workspaces with an approved deferral have until February 11, 2027.

Where can I use the Skill?

In Claude: open Customize, then Skills, choose +, then Create skill and Upload a skill, and pick the ZIP (code execution has to be on under Settings, Capabilities). In Codex: unzip it into ~/.agents/skills. ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces can upload it under Plugins, Skills; Plus and Pro can't.

What doesn't come across?

Actions, which called outside services, your chosen model, and your sharing settings and users. Claude doesn't create images, so a GPT that did gets a note telling Claude what to do instead.

If I give people the ZIP, can they see my instructions?

Yes. A Skill is a folder of files, so anyone you give it to has your instructions and knowledge files and can pass them on. To let people use it without receiving the files, sell access through ExpertRelay instead: they use it from their own Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and get the answers, not the files.

Is the converter free?

Yes, with no account. Building and testing on ExpertRelay is free too; you pay only when you publish to customers.
