Is there a Claude Skills marketplace? Where to find Skills, and how to sell one

There is no official Claude Skills store. Skills spread through plugin marketplaces and free directories. Here's where to find them, and how to sell one without giving away the file.

No, not in the app-store sense. Anthropic doesn't run a store where you can browse, buy and sell Claude Skills. What exists instead is a mix of free plugin marketplaces for Claude Code, Anthropic's own open-source repository, and community directories that index Skills from GitHub.

That's fine if you want to find a Skill. It's a problem if you built one and want to get paid for it. This guide covers both: where Skills live today, and how to sell one without handing over the file that took you months to get right.

Where to find Claude Skills today

A Claude Skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file of instructions, plus any scripts or reference files it needs. Claude reads the short description of every installed Skill and loads the full instructions only when a request matches. Here's where people get them.

How you install one depends on where you use Claude. In claude.ai you upload a zip under Customize > Skills. On Free, Pro and Max plans it stays personal; on Team and Enterprise plans you can share it with colleagues or your organization's library, and owners can provision Skills for everyone. On the API, an uploaded Skill is shared across the workspace. In Claude Code, Skills are folders on your machine or come in a plugin. A Skill added in one place doesn't show up in the others.

One warning before you install anything. Anthropic's own docs say to use Skills only from trusted sources, because a Skill can tell Claude to run code. Read the SKILL.md and any scripts first, as you would before installing software.

Can you sell a Claude Skill?

Yes, but if the method is the product, don't hand over the files. Once a customer installs a Skill, they can read its SKILL.md: Claude has to read the instructions to use them, and Anthropic tells buyers to read a Skill's files before installing it. So sell access instead of the folder.

None of the places above will sell it for you, either. Anthropic's docs and plugin marketplaces say nothing about paid Skills. SkillsMP describes itself as completely free, with every Skill open source. So people who sell a Skill today usually sell the files: a ZIP behind a checkout page, or a custom build for one client.

Selling the ZIP works until you look at what happens after the sale:

  • The buyer owns your method. Everything that makes the Skill good (your prompts, criteria and examples) is in plain text in the folder they downloaded.
  • Copies travel. Nothing stops a buyer from passing the folder on, and a refund doesn't take the files back.
  • Every update is a reinstall. You fix something, and each customer has to download, unzip and upload again. Many won't, so you end up supporting old versions.
  • Each customer installs it themselves. They upload the ZIP to their own account, or someone adds it to their organization's library on a Team or Enterprise plan.
  • You can't see use. Once the file is out, you don't know who runs it or whether it works for them.

None of this matters for a free Skill shared to build an audience. It matters a lot when the Skill is the product.

How to sell a Skill without handing over the file

The alternative is to sell access instead of the folder. The Skill runs on a server you control, and customers connect to it from the AI app they already use. They get the work the Skill does; the SKILL.md never leaves your hands.

That's what expertrelay does:

  1. Upload your Skill ZIP. Bring the SKILL.md, references and scripts you already have. Test how it runs privately before anyone pays.
  2. Create an offer. Sell one Skill, a bundle, or include access in a course, membership or coaching program. You set the price.
  3. Customers connect. They sign in from a supported AI app such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor (connected over MCP, the standard way AI apps call outside tools). There's nothing to download or install.
  4. Publish updates once. Every connected customer runs the new version on their next request.

Because access is tied to the purchase, a refund or cancellation turns it off; there's no file to chase. You also see who claimed access, who ran the Skill and who came back.

Building and testing is free. Selling starts at $29 a month on the Starter plan, which includes 200 customer runs, and expertrelay takes no percentage of your Skill sales.

One honest limit: a useful answer can still show parts of how your method thinks. Hosting protects the instructions and files, not every idea behind them.

FAQ

Is there an official Anthropic Claude Skills marketplace?

Not a store. Anthropic publishes built-in Skills, an open-source skills repository, and an official plugin marketplace for Claude Code (anthropics/claude-plugins-official). None of them sells Skills.

Are Claude Skills free?

Almost all Skills in public directories are free and open source. Paid Skills are sold directly by their creators, either as files or as hosted access.

Is it safe to install a Skill from a marketplace?

Only if you trust the source or have read it. A Skill can direct Claude to run code, so Anthropic recommends auditing every file in a Skill from an unknown author before you use it.

Can my whole team use a Skill I upload to claude.ai?

On Team and Enterprise plans, yes: share it with specific people, submit it to your organization's library, or ask an owner to provision it for everyone. On Free, Pro and Max plans, Skills are personal. API workspaces share uploaded Skills across members.

Can I sell a Claude Skill without giving away the SKILL.md?

Yes, by selling hosted access rather than the file. An installed SKILL.md can't stay private, so the Skill runs on a server and customers connect from their AI app; the source stays with you. How to sell a Claude Skill without giving away the SKILL.md explains the options.
